ABOUT US

The current owners are 12th and 13th generation South Africans, whose ancestors include some of the original pioneers who arrived from Europe at the Cape of Good Hope in 1652.

The De Waals have been wine farmers for many generations and Hermanus Lambertus de Waal settled in the Voor-Paardeberg area from Langverwacht, Stellenbosch in 1877. He and his descendants were quite successful to the extent that Pieter de Waal won the ultimate accolade for his wine in 1927 i.e. the General Smuts Trophy.

Willem de Waal, the General Manager of our family business, graduated from the Cape Town International Hotel Management School before studying Management Accounting at the University of Stellenbosch. After extensive experience in the business world he joined the family business in 2009 to live his dream of being surrounded by the great outdoors (and pets). He is married to Elizabeth (Joubert) and their first child, Kara, was born in January 2010 (as God's gift to her grandparents!).

Niel and Rentia de Waal live next to the sea in the Strand and they keep themselves busy with all the wonderful things for which they never had enough time.
